Residence
A sweet, comfortable ranch style house in Virginia Beach, VA, USA. With the home improvements we've been making over the last two years, I've started to feel like a character in "The Money Pit," but we've finally reached the finishing touches stage, so things are looking up on the remodeling front.

List, AOL, or web affiliations
Ummmmmm. . .pretty eclectic. I'll "click" in anywhere for a good read.

Lois and Clark or Superman Status

How long have you been watching L&C?
I didn't get hooked on L&C until I found the reruns on TNT, after the show was cancelled. So, I suppose you could call me a "Jill-come-lately." When it first aired, I thought, "oh, a Sunday night show for kids." Caught an episode here or there, but it didn't grab me until I finally noticed the *romance* angle of the show. *That's* when it clicked for me.

How long have you been a fan of Superman?
I was a fan of Superman as a child from the George Reeves Series and the comics. Since it was when I was a child <g>, I've been a fan a loooooong time. I've always loved the flying aspect! Wish *I* could do that!

How long have you been writing?
I've been writing off and on (more off than on) all my life.

How long have you been writing L&C fanfic?
For a few years, once I found the stories on the internet and realized, "hmmmmm, *I* could do that!" It opened up a world of possibilities for me that I had never considered before and, with Labrat's (constant) encouragement, I tried my hand at it. The offerings to date are few, but I hope you've enjoyed them.

What types of Fanfic have you written?
Only L&C so far, as the romance angle caught my attention. However, I have enjoyed Star Trek fanfic (all kinds, all series). I've enjoyed exploring the Next Generation of L&C, because it opens up fresh possibilities and I love the family I created for them. I've mainly stuck with a combination of Next Generation/nfic, but one of my current projects has drama/action as well.

Most recent story posted? Where?
Oh, Lord! I think it was two years ago (?) here at Anne's Place, called "Love Finds A Way." To my complete shock, it was nominated and won for Best Next Generation Kerth that year. I've posted a few reworked PG versions of stories on the Fanfic Archives.

Favorite story you have written? Why?
"Love Finds A Way", so far. It's a next generation love story featuring the eldest Kent daughter in my little future universe. It arose from a conversation my husband and I had when "Supergirl," the movie, first came out in the 70's. The biology of a Kryptonian female and a human male presented a few, ummm, er, unique obstacles that were different from obstacles a Kryptonian male and human female would face. I decided to explore the options. Also, (and I blush as I write this) I really love the way Lois' mind works in her mountainside conversation with M.E. (Martha Ellen). That story came together for me in a good way and showed a WAFFY side of Lois and Clark years down the road in an established marriage.

Current project/projects?
Please don't hate me. I promise to finish these next ones by the end of the year (but I didn't say which year). I have two in the works right now, both next generation, and it's giving me fits trying to find time to work on them. Briefly, as a teaser, the first is the youngest Kent child's surprise arrival (in my little universe, anyway) and the impact the pregnancy has on Lois and Clark's marriage. The second is set much, much later. A third generation appears in this story, the second from the youngest Kent child falls in love (in typical Kryptonian fashion) with someone you will NOT believe, and the complications are harrowing! (for me and the characters!)

Personal picks of other Fanfics you have read?
I love practically everything LabRat writes. She was my inspiration and my mentor. Sheila Harper blows me away on a regular basis. Peace and Julie Mack are always good reads. Gosh and Golly. There are too many to name and I'm bound to hurt somebody's feelings without meaning to. Zoomway is great in the PG arena. Can I stop now?

General Interview Questions

What attracted you to writing Fanfic and what about it do you enjoy?
The romance, and the romance. Simple answer, tough question. I liked the concept of taking established characters and filling in the rest of the story. Because of the quality of the show and it's restriction to a PG format, the concept just screams to be expanded past the confines of television.

What about the L&C and the characters do you like the most?
At the risk of being extremely one note, I love the romance angle. Clark's earnestness and Lois' obliviousness make for some great fictional opportunities to explore the awakening of Lois. Clark is such a *good* guy that I sometimes forget that he is, at the most basic level, an alien. His 'otherness' crops up at the strangest moments, but ultimately only serves to assist us in redefining the concept of humanity. Lois, as she is portrayed in the series, is a brilliant, frantic, emotionally repressed professional woman without a clue for a large part of the original lexicon. Her caring heart, that sometimes only Clark can see, is her saving grace. I have to say that his patience is phenomenal. . . perhaps it takes superhuman patience to connect with Lois.

How do you interpret them in your work?
I hope I keep Clark's basic nature steady, as that is how I see Clark/Superman. Earnest, devoted, slow to anger, somewhat naive, in a sweet way, and occasionally baffled by humans, one human female in particular. Since I have focused primarily on the Next Generation genre, I get to explore the effects of a long marriage and raising a family on both Lois and Clark. From my personal experience, I have decided that their union will strengthen them both. Over the years, they learn from each other. While basic personalities remain the same, my Clark of the future is a little more savvy and Lois has had some of her rougher edges worn away over time.

How did you begin writing in general?
Do young girls still keep diaries? I began that way. For a while, I was convinced I would be a poet, but that didn't happen in reality (though I did fill notebooks with some really horrible stuff). I still think of myself as a dabbler, but I joke that I want to be Nora Roberts when I grow up (can that woman churn out books, or what?).

How do you feel about being nominated for a Kerth Award?
I was completely stunned. After the shock wore off, I was very pleased. When I won my category, I needed oxygen!

What story of yours was nominated for a Kerth Award and could you tell about it?
Since I've only posted three stories, "If I Had It To Do All Over Again," "Love Finds A Way" and "Mr. Right Now," there isn't much more to talk about. "Love Finds A Way" was the nominated story and I've already mentioned it. I'm fascinated by Clark's Kryptonian propensity to fall in love at once and completely when the right person comes along. I've used it in my next generation stories, keeping the trait alive with Lois and Clark's children. When M.E. falls, she falls hard, and it was fun creating a human male to serve as Lois' counterpart. David, M.E.'s beloved, is not quite as clueless as Lois, however, at least where love is concerned.

What are you working on now and where do you see it going?
Again, I have two in the works (see above).

What is your opinion about the following types of L&C fanfic's?
Action?
I love a good action story. One of my works in progress has quite a bit of action and I am learning a new respect for the genre. It's not as easy as it looks to write a good action scene. I have a little trouble keeping track of who is where at what time and making it flow logically.

Drama?
I love a good drama, as well, but I am not a fan of drama for drama's sake. If the drama is logical, if the characters remain in character, it's fine. When it's done well, it's terrific. Sheila Harper is a master at that! When authors twist the basic personalities of the characters in order to force a dramatic situation, I find myself thinking, "But Clark wouldn't do that," or "Lois isn't like that!"

Humor?
Who doesn't like

Humor?
The "strange visitor from another planet" angle certainly lends itself to humorous moments. I'm not a huge fan of satire or parody, however.

Round Robin?
Writing is such a solitary pursuit that a Round Robin can be a lot of fun! I think a Round Robin rarely produces a cohesive story, but I like participating in them just for fun.

Nfic?
Nfic is fun to write. It's also a lot harder than you would think, if you'll pardon the pun. At least, it's difficult to write quality nfic. As with the action sequences, I have to stop and think about who's left elbow is where at this point in the story <g>. It can't all be heaving bosoms and graphic descriptions. At that point, it simply becomes pornography. The best nfic combines all the elements, so that the sexual segments are part of the whole and reveals something new about the story or the characters.

Has *everything* been done in your opinion, and if not, what is left?
There is nothing new under the sun. Yeah, right! That said, love is infinitely new and renewing, thank God. Of course there is more left to write, just as there is more life to live. That's why I like Next Generation fiction. The themes remain the same, but the situations are new to the people experiencing them, with Lois & Clark assuming the advice giving roles of Jonathan and Martha.

What do you think makes the best story?
A combination of all elements. A little something for everyone.

Would you like to add a link or URL to your favorite fanfic for the readers to sample your writing?
You can find my stories as they were originally written here at www.nfanfic.net. For the PG versions of "If I Had..." and "Mr. Right Now" you can check out the L&C Archives. "Love Finds A Way" is inherently nfic, so I couldn't water it down to PG.

Where is the best place for a reader to locate your work?

I've often said that I don't like to write as much as I like to have written. There is a distinction. As a voracious reader, it's fun and extremely challenging to try my hand at producing a new story. I want to thank Anne for the opportunity to post stories and LabRat, in particular, for her encouraging nudges. I've been silent (that's what working a 'real' job will do to you), but I'm not gone. Oh, no. Having said that, now I'll have to deliver! Yikes!
