The Readers' Choice

This week’s interviewee is relatively new to posting feedback, but in the few months she’s been around on Zoomway’s boards she’s deservedly won a place in the affections of FoLCs for her highly amusing and often pithy comments on stories. She is also a very loyal and determined cheerleader, especially for those authors whose muses are giving them a hard time. Welcome to this week’s interviewee on The Readers’ Choice:

Maria Fernandez

Whereabouts in the world are you?
Caguas, Puerto Rico USA (Caribbean)

How long have you been a FoLC?
Here in Puerto Rico they only showed "The Pilot"; years later I started to watch on TNT. I got addicted to Lois and Clark.

What drew you to Lois and Clark?
I always remember the way George Reeves and Phyllis Coates portrayed Superman
and Lois Lane. When I saw Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain it reminded me of that couple. They gave Clark Kent character. He was portrayed as insecure or a little
effeminate. He was once again portrayed with dignity, a man like every other
man. For the first time a Lois Lane who is secure of what she wants at the same level as Clark Kent.

When did you first discover fanfic?
After my father died I was little depressed and at the time I was introduced to the world of computers and the Internet - that’s when I found all those great web pages. I don't remember the time, but it was 6 month before I joined the Message Boards. Then it took a lot of valor to post my first comments. I still don't know how my computer works but I do know how to connect.

What's the very first fanfic you read? Do you remember what your first thoughts were about the concept of fanfiction?
I think it was "The unaired fifth season". That was when I got hooked.

*Well you ask! I couldn't decide wish one to pick.

A new story goes up on the Archive or MBs. You drop everything - and we mean *everything* - to read it. So who would it be by? <g>
I start my day by seeing what new post of the day. I don't discriminate who writes but yes I have my preference of author.

What type of stories do you most enjoy reading, and why?
I love romantic, funny and sequel of stories.

What's your opinion of:
Drama?
It raises my blood pressure but I'll die happy!
Action?
Love it.
Romance?
Love romantic stories because they are light reading with happy ending.
Tearjerkers?
I love a good cry on a story, that means it’s touching me.
WAFFy vignettes?
Light reading to my soul.
Elseworlds?
Love the variation of the story. One of my favorite.
Alternate Universe/Beginnings?
Another of my favorites. The same character but with different circumstance
that surrounding that character that made him (her) different.

Other (if we’ve failed to include your favourite type, here’s your chance to set the record straight <g>)?
I love all kinds of stories except that ones that have Lex Luthor or other super hero except Batman. And yes, I do read them all, I can't discriminate.

Can you choose one, possibly two, stories you'd consider personal favourites, and tell us what you like about them?
My personal favorites "A Universal Union series" by Jenni Debbage. This is a
totally different version of our typical Lois and Clark, working, Daily
Planet, Metropolis. And the other story is "Not a day" by Stopquitdont. This is sweet, romantic, perfect for the heart.

Has everything been done in L&C fanfic? Are there any unexplored scenarios? Or doesn't it matter? <g>
There is always something new. As long as the world turn and writer
continue to be inspire by their muse and as long as we the reader continue
to comments. I think they'll continue to be inspire and brings new things to
their stories.

If you could be your favourite author's personal Muse, what would your dream story premise be?
A lot of love! A very pink thing, a little bit of crying and a lot of romance , and no Lex Luthor.

In your opinion, what makes for the best story? What ingredients, in your opinion, are essential to your favourite type of fanfic?
A little romance, little crying, a good plot and a lot of passion, an intense drama and a good writer that can give a happy ending to the story.

Any other comments you'd like to make?
I wish I can write and express as good as all of you, but God didn't give me the connection between my brains and my hands. I admire all those writers that come after a very long rest and finish their stories, all those writer who sacrifice the little time they have to rest to write for us. To all the readers out there that said "present" with their comment to our writers so they continue with their writing. I admire you all and thank you. You all make me feel like part of a big family.

Thank you,
Maria
