The Readers' Choice
This week's interviewee is a Euro-FoLC turned American; she's from Germany originally, but moved to the US and now lives on the East coast. She's known on IRC and the message boards as an inveterate nagger of fanfic writers, and her trademark cry is this:
Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag
She is...
Natascha Kortum, aka Tasha
Whereabouts in the world are you?
USA East Coast via Germany
How long have you been a FoLC?
Since at least 1994
What drew you to Lois and Clark?
The relationship and blossoming romance.
When did you first discover fanfic?
When I finally had access to a computer and Internet. 1999.
What's the very first fanfic you read? Do you remember what your
first thoughts were about the concept of fanfiction?
I started out with a few small vignettes but once I started reading
For the Greater Good by Wendy Richards on the MBs, I felt compelled to
become part of the fanfic community by starting to post comments. I love
the fact that LnC readers are listened to most of the time. ;) Fanfic-
What a way to keep Lois and Clark alive!
What are your favourite sites for reading fanfic?
I like reading fics in installments on Zoom's message boards or in
their entire length on the archive site.
List some stories you'd recommend to other readers.
For the Greater Good by Wendy. Camping with Clark and Now Hold on A
Minute Here by Kathy Brown. The People vs Clark Kent by ML Thompson. New
Wild Heaven by Kaethel (Where is part 2???). Caped Fear by LabRat. Heaven's
Prisoners by Demi. Duet by
ShayneT, Zoom's stories...
A new story goes up on the Archive or MBs. You drop everything -
and we mean *everything* - to read it. So who would it be by? <g>
Zoomway. She doesn't post that often anymore, so every time is a treat.
What type of stories do you most enjoy reading, and why?
I definitely enjoy stories with a little bit of drama and lots of WAFFs
the most. For me, that's what Lois and Clark is all about. ;)
What's your opinion of:
Drama? Love it but I like to be sure there will be a happy ending.
I prefer to read non-abusive stories.
Action? Not that important to me. Tends to keep our heroes too
much apart. <g>
Romance? Definitely my preference.
Tearjerkers? Every once in a while that's what I look for. Depends
on the mood I am in. But they have to be well written.
WAFFy vignettes? Take them any day!
Elseworlds? Fascinating.
Alternate Universe/Beginnings? See Elseworlds
Can you choose one, possibly two, stories you'd consider personal
favourites, and tell us what you like about them?
Really too many to, count I am proud to say.
Has everything been done in L&C fanfic? Are there any unexplored
scenarios?
Or doesn't it matter? <g>
No, I am sure there is a lot left to explore. Every time I watch an
episode, I come up with another What If question. And there are so many
stories out there whose angles I would have never thought of. I think if
authors keep writing, we will be supplied with material for a long time.
:)
If you could be your favourite author's personal Muse, what would
your dream story premise be?
Right now I think I would want to be the When More Becomes Everything
muse... I don't want to wait another few years to read that!
In your opinion, what makes for the best story? What ingredients,
in your opinion, are essential to your favourite type of fanfic?
I like stories that are B-plot oriented, some drama and of course lots
of WAFFs. I prefer Lois and Clark working together rather than being apart
throughout the stories. I don't like dragged out misunderstandings.
Any other comments you'd like to make?
Thank you all for providing me with so much joy for such a long time.
Please never stop writing!
